LunarCrush is a legitimate data business that a lot of people consume secondhand without realising it. As a measure of where crypto attention is concentrating, it's useful and quick. As a trading system, it isn't one, and the company doesn't claim otherwise. The two things to hold onto: sentiment usually reads best contrarian, and the metrics it's built from can be manufactured by anyone with a bot budget. Worth the subscription if you know which of those you're facing. 6.9/10.
What LunarCrush is
LunarCrush collects public crypto conversation at scale and converts it into structured metrics — volume of mentions, breadth of distinct accounts, tone, and rate of change — surfaced through a web dashboard and an API. An AI co-pilot sits on top, summarising and answering questions about what the data is doing.
Notice what that is and isn't. It measures attention, not value. Attention and price are related the way weather and crowds are related: usually correlated, occasionally decoupled, and the exceptions are where the money is made or lost.
Pricing, and why we won't guess
LunarCrush sells tiered plans. We are not printing the figures, and the reason is a rule we apply everywhere on this site: our source data doesn't fix current LunarCrush pricing, this category re-prices often, and a confidently wrong number is worse than an honest gap. Check the vendor's live pricing page before you subscribe.
What we can tell you is how to judge the number when you see it. Ask what the equivalent spend buys elsewhere — a month of Santiment Pro is $49 for a broader on-chain plus social dataset — and ask whether you'd use the API or just look at the dashboard. Dashboard-only use is much harder to justify at any price above a coffee habit, because attention data goes stale in hours.
You may already be paying for this data
The most commercially useful fact in this review: LunarCrush data is embedded in the signal generation of a number of other services. When a product advertises "proprietary AI sentiment analysis," there's a reasonable chance a slice of that is an upstream feed with a markup on top.
Two consequences. First, you can sometimes cut out the middle layer — if a service's edge is mainly sentiment, subscribing to the source gives you the same input at one hop instead of two, minus their interpretation. Second, and more important: several products you might otherwise treat as independent are drinking from the same well. Their "confirmation" of each other isn't confirmation at all, it's one dataset wearing different logos. That's the correlation trap we describe in how to vet a signal provider, and it's a good reason to ask any AI-flavoured service what it actually runs on — a question the AI signals ranking asks of everyone in the category.
Sentiment as a contrarian indicator
The naive reading is "high sentiment, buy." The evidence for that is thin, and the mechanism argues against it: by the time an asset is universally loved, the people who were going to buy it mostly have. Peak enthusiasm is a description of positioning, not a forecast.
The usable readings are subtler. A sharp spike in mentions on an asset nobody was discussing yesterday is an attention event worth investigating — often early, sometimes engineered. Sustained extreme positivity plus stalling price is a crowding warning. Sentiment collapsing while price holds is the pattern worth the most attention, because it means the crowd left and the bid didn't.
Use it as one input among several. Sentiment plus on-chain flows plus a level that matters is a thesis; sentiment alone is a hunch with a chart. The layering approach is spelled out in technical analysis signals.
Where sentiment breaks
- It can be manufactured. Bot networks and paid engagement inflate exactly the metrics the score reads. Sentiment is therefore weakest on low-cap tokens — precisely where users go looking for an edge, and precisely where the pump-and-dump playbook operates.
- Reflexivity. When enough traders act on the same sentiment feed, the feed starts moving the market it measures, and the historical relationship you backtested quietly stops holding.
- Attention isn't direction. A token can trend because it's collapsing. Volume of discussion says nothing about which way.
- Platform dependency. The metrics inherit whatever the underlying social platforms do to their APIs and their moderation. A change upstream can shift a series without anything happening in the market.
- The AI layer smooths uncertainty away. A confident natural-language summary reads more authoritative than a noisy chart deserves. That's a UX property, not an accuracy one.
Who LunarCrush suits
Good fit if: you already trade a thesis and want a fast read on crowding, you're building something that needs a social feed via API, or you want to know what a narrative looks like before it reaches your timeline.
Poor fit if: you want entries and exits — there are none here — or you'd be trading low-cap tokens off sentiment scores, which is the exact configuration the data handles worst. Beginners get more from what crypto signals are than from a metrics subscription.
Where it's strong
- Genuine specialist in crypto social data, at scale
- API-first, so it fits into systematic workflows
- Fast read on where attention is concentrating
- Publishes no win-rate claims of its own
- Often the upstream source behind pricier "AI" products
Where it isn't
- Sentiment is manipulable by anyone with a bot budget
- Weakest exactly where users want it most: low-cap tokens
- Attention says nothing about direction
- Current pricing needs checking on the vendor's live page
- AI summaries sound more certain than the data supports
Alternatives worth comparing
- Santiment — social plus on-chain in one dataset, with published pricing.
- SentiBot — sentiment packaged as trade signals rather than raw metrics.
- Token Metrics — ratings and picks if you'd rather buy the conclusion than the input.

How we scored it: 6.9/10
By the published weights: verified performance (35%) is mid-band — nothing tracked, nothing claimed, and unlike on-chain data the underlying social inputs can't be independently reconciled the way a blockchain can. Transparency (25%) is decent on method and weaker on pricing clarity, which is why we tell you to check it live. Pricing and value (15%) can't be scored precisely for the same reason, so it sits neutral. Risk practices (15%) are amber, because a manipulable metric sold to retail deserves a warning rather than a shrug. Support and UX (10%) score well; the dashboard and co-pilot are the polished part. Net 6.9 — a real data source held back from the top band by manipulability and pricing opacity.
LunarCrush FAQ
How much does LunarCrush cost?
It runs a tiered plan structure, and we are not quoting numbers for it. Our source data does not fix the current figures and this category re-prices frequently — check the live pricing page before subscribing. We would rather say "verify it" than print a figure that quietly goes stale.
What does LunarCrush actually measure?
Crypto social activity, turned into structured metrics: how much an asset is being discussed, by how many distinct accounts, with what tone, and how that is changing. It is a measure of attention, not of value, and the two only correlate some of the time.
Is LunarCrush used by other signal services?
Yes — its data is embedded in the signal generation of a number of other products. That matters commercially: some services charging for "proprietary sentiment analysis" are repackaging an upstream feed you could subscribe to directly.
Can social sentiment predict crypto prices?
Not reliably, and not in the direction most people assume. Extreme positive sentiment more often marks crowding — a position everybody already holds — than a beginning. Its better uses are contrarian and diagnostic: spotting saturation, and catching attention spikes early enough to matter.
What is the biggest weakness of sentiment data?
It can be manufactured. Bot networks and paid engagement inflate the exact metrics the score is built from, which makes sentiment weakest on precisely the low-cap tokens where people most want an edge — and where the pump-and-dump playbook is being run.
Does LunarCrush have a verified win rate?
No, and it doesn't publish one. It supplies metrics rather than trades, so there is nothing for our accuracy tracker to count. Treat any third party quoting a LunarCrush-based win rate as making a claim about their own model, not about the data.
Crypto assets are volatile and largely unregulated. Social sentiment is one of the noisiest inputs available and it peaks near tops as reliably as it does anywhere else. Never trade with money you cannot afford to lose, and never treat a sentiment score, an AI summary or a trending list as a guarantee of profit.
